Cabin crew eligibility in India: qualifications, age and reach
Airlines assess cabin-crew applicants against their own recruitment and medical criteria. The requirements may include education, age, functional reach, communication ability and fitness for duty. IESP’s course admission criteria should be read separately from the hiring criteria of a particular airline.
| Requirement | What we ask for |
|---|---|
| Qualification | 12th pass, any stream. Science or commerce is not required. |
| Age | 18 to 28 years |
| Height, female | 5 ft 3 in, 162 cm |
| Height, male | 5 ft 7 in, 174 cm |
| Height and reach | Minimum height and reach requirements vary by airline and role. The admissions team will provide the current IESP entry threshold, expressed consistently in centimetres, and help candidates review the requirements of airlines they wish to apply to. |
| Weight | In proportion to height, where the airline requires it. |
Confirming the latest criteria
Before applying, review the current recruitment notice issued by the airline. Reach and height measurements, where required, must be reproduced exactly as issued and expressed consistently. A training institute’s admission threshold does not replace an airline’s final assessment.
Can boys become cabin crew?
Yes, with the same 12th pass and age range. Height and reach requirements vary by airline and role.
Can I become cabin crew after 12th?
Yes. A 12th pass in any stream is the requirement. If you are appearing for 12th this year you can start counselling now and enrol once your result is out.
Read the full syllabus on the air hostess and cabin crew course page.
What is the age limit for an air hostess?
We take students aged 18 to 28 on our cabin crew course. Airlines set their own age limits and they differ.
Is English important for cabin crew?
English is assessed at every airline interview, so we teach it as a full subject. In the first meeting we tell you honestly how far you are from the standard, and how long it takes.
Does meeting the criteria guarantee selection?
No. Eligibility permits an applicant to participate in a recruitment process but does not guarantee selection. Airlines assess candidates through their own evaluation stages.
